Mathiatis is an old Cypriot village that is gradually becoming part of Nicosia as the capital expands southwards. The village is currently considered the outskirts of Nicosia but will soon fall within the 2nd ring road encircling the capital. Mathiatis, 15 minutes’ drive into the centre of Nicosia, has seen a large amount of new homes built by local Cypriots seeking to escape the city, though still commute easily, and get more land and house for their money. Of course being closer to the sea and the international airport also makes the location attractive, as does the fact that it is only 5kms from the A1 motorway joining Larnaka and Limassol to Nicosia.
